Believe and TuneCore conducted a survey of 1,558 musicians in various countries to gather information about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the music industry. The study found that more than a quarter of artists are already utilizing automated tools.
Among the respondents, having over 10 years of experience in the music industry, 27 percent reported already using some form of AI music tools. The study also revealed that within this group, 57 percent used AI for creating artwork, 37 percent for promotional purposes, and 20 percent to engage fans. Surprisingly, 35 percent expressed a great interest in using generative AI directly in their creative efforts, while 31 percent were primarily interested in AI for marketing, 18 percent for generating promo content, like TikTok videos, and 16 percent wanted to use AI for fan engagement and development.
Notably, many musicians had concerns about offering up their music for machine learning, or giving consent for their music, voice, and artwork to be used in generative AI services. Furthermore, a huge 77 percent of creators expressed fear of being replaced by AI-generated music, while a sizable 61 percent were concerned about the potential for plagiarism.
