New advanced methods, such as UAV-based RGB imaging and deep learning (DL) could revolutionize new pine shoot detection in technology. The recent study developed a system for counting slash pine (Pinus elliottii ) shoots, with results showing very high prediction accuracy. The study found that using the SPSC-net and YOLOX models offered superior detection and counting accuracy. Despite these findings, the study outlined some potential obstacles that could limit success, yet the study still demonstrated the increased effectiveness of these new technologies. This research offers a new pipeline for forestry research and genetic breeding of slash pines and other plants.
